Goddess Demeter - Smoky Quartz Earrings

Demeter - ”She of the grain”. Greek Goddess of harvest, agriculture, fertility. She also presided over the cycle of life and death. She was often worshipped more generally as a goddess of the earth.

Her most famous myth includes the abducts of her precious daughter Persephone, by the underworld god.

Her primordial maternal rage & power awakens when she hears Zeus her brother & daughter’s father had secretly approved of this & their marriage.

Demeter’s grief causes all the plants to wither & die, which in turn alerts Zeus to bring Persephone back. It’s said that Hades the underworld god approves, yet tricks Persephone to eat 6 pomegranate seeds to keep her part time in the underworld.

From that point onwards, Persephone had to stay in the underworld for 6 months ~ equivalent to the season of winter in the world of mortals; and the rest of the year she’d return to Olympus, the realm of her mother marking the beginning of spring and summer.

You can connect with Demeter by growing or foraging your own food and giving thanks to how abundantly the soils of our Earth Mother is blessing us with her gifts. Demeter is also very present during harvest seasons.

Demeter’s message:  A mother’s love for her child (light feminine aspect) and a woman’s healthy rage - saying ’no’ (dark feminine aspect) are both powerful forces — both can move mountains.
